About Ark Media

Ark Media is a mission-driven podcast network exploring the big questions shaping Jewish life, Israel’s future, and our rapidly changing world. Through high-impact original programming and conversations with thought leaders and decision-makers, Ark aims to build a global community grounded in curiosity, rigor, and meaningful dialogue.

We move fast, care deeply about the audience experience, and hold a high bar for editorial quality and storytelling. Our work sits at the intersection of journalism, analysis, and narrative audio.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Newsletter Editor to help build Ark Media’s written editorial products from the ground up, beginning with a weekly newsletter.

This is an opportunity to shape a new editorial lane inside a fast-growing media company with a deeply engaged audience and a clear mission. Ark is best known today for its podcasts, but the written product should become its own entry point into the world of Ark: a place for sharp analysis, smart synthesis, original ideas, contributor voices, audience questions, and thoughtful engagement with the issues shaping Jewish life, Israel, the Jewish Diaspora, and geopolitics.

This is a hands-on editorial role for someone who can both define the product and produce the product. The right person will bring excellent editorial judgment, deep subject-matter knowledge, sharp writing and editing instincts, real newsletter experience, product sensibility, and the ability to turn Ark’s ideas, reporting, conversations, contributors, and relationship with its audience into a compelling written experience.

Ark currently has a newsletter, but we are building something much more ambitious: a written editorial product with its own voice, structure, audience promise, and reason to exist. The right person will have the chance to take a written editorial product from 0 to 1: moving it from early concept to regular publication, helping define what it should become, and building the systems that allow it to grow.

The first mandate is the weekly newsletter. This role will write, edit, shape, package, and manage the newsletter product, including the editorial process, publishing workflow, and contributor relationships. It will not have direct reports at launch, but it will require strong cross-functional collaboration across editorial, production, marketing, membership, and audience teams.

What You’ll Do

Build the Newsletter Product

  • Define the editorial promise, audience, format, tone, and recurring structure for Ark’s weekly newsletter
  • Develop the newsletter as a distinct editorial product with original written value
  • Recommend the right audience and access strategy for Ark’s written products based on newsletter best practices, audience behavior, and business goals
  • Establish how the newsletter supports audience habit, engagement, loyalty, and long-term growth
  • Identify where original analysis, contributor columns, reporting, episode takeaways, news context, Jewish life, Israel, the Jewish Diaspora, geopolitics, and audience questions fit together
  • Build a product that is contributor-enhanced, not contributor-dependent

Write, Edit, and Package the Newsletter

  • Own the weekly newsletter from concept through publication
  • Write original sections of the newsletter, including editorial notes, short analysis, framing, episode takeaways, context sections, and audience-facing copy
  • Turn Ark’s audio, video, reporting, ideas, and conversations into standalone written editorial work that creates value on its own
  • Edit contributor pieces for clarity, structure, voice, length, accuracy, and fit with Ark’s editorial standards
  • Package each issue so it is sharp, readable, useful, and easy to consume
  • Maintain a consistent written voice that feels connected to Ark while giving the newsletter its own editorial identity
  • Handle occasional writing and editing assignments beyond the newsletter when needed

Manage Contributors and Editorial Inputs

  • Manage recurring and occasional contributors, which may include Ark hosts, analysts, outside writers, and subject-matter experts
  • Assign pieces, manage deadlines, edit drafts, and ensure contributions fit the broader newsletter product
  • Build recurring editorial formats that do not depend on any single contributor
  • Maintain quality and cadence even when outside contributors are unavailable
  • Develop a sustainable contributor workflow that can scale as Ark’s written products grow

Own the Publishing Workflow

  • Manage the weekly publishing workflow in beehiiv, including formatting, links, segmentation, scheduling, QA, and post-send review
  • Build a repeatable operating rhythm for planning, drafting, editing, approvals, publishing, and performance review
  • Coordinate with production, marketing, membership, and audience teams
  • Work closely with the CEO early on to establish editorial standards, approval norms, and a shared understanding of the newsletter’s voice and purpose
  • Create systems that allow the product to become more consistent, independent, and scalable over time

Use Data to Improve the Product

  • Define the first-year success metrics for Ark’s written editorial products
  • Track newsletter performance, including opens, clicks, read behavior, subscriber engagement, audience feedback, and other signals of value
  • Use performance data and reader feedback to optimize format, content mix, cadence, packaging, and audience value
  • Help Ark understand what the newsletter is doing well, where it is underperforming, and where the written product should go next
  • Build a practical reporting rhythm so the team can evaluate whether the newsletter is strengthening Ark’s audience relationship

What Success Looks Like

  • Ark has a clear, compelling weekly newsletter with its own editorial promise, format, and voice
  • The newsletter becomes a meaningful written editorial product, with original value beyond episode promotion
  • The product is contributor-enhanced, rather than contributor-dependent
  • The weekly workflow is reliable, documented, and sustainable
  • beehiiv is being used effectively for publishing, segmentation, QA, and performance review
  • The newsletter establishes Ark’s written editorial identity across Jewish life, Israel, the Jewish Diaspora, and geopolitics
  • The team has a clear understanding of newsletter performance and how the written product supports audience loyalty and growth
  • Readers begin to see the newsletter as a distinct reason to stay connected to Ark

Who You Are

  • Experienced newsletter editor who knows how to build an editorial product, not just send an email
  • Sharp writer and editor with excellent judgment, deep subject-matter knowledge, and meaningful experience covering or editing work on Jewish life, Israel, the Jewish Diaspora, and geopolitics
  • Product-minded operator who can bring structure to ambiguity and turn a broad mandate into a repeatable weekly product
  • Independent, self-starting, and able to move work forward without waiting for perfect direction
  • Collaborative team player who sees around corners, communicates clearly, works well across functions, and keeps people aligned
  • Editorially confident, with ideas to contribute and the judgment to know when and how to share them
  • Oriented around audience value, editorial promise, cadence, packaging, and habit formation
  • Skilled at finding the written editorial opportunity inside audio, video, reporting, conversations, and audience questions
  • Clear and confident with high-profile or opinionated contributors, while protecting the product’s voice, standards, and deadlines
  • Obsessive and rigorous about accuracy, clarity, nuance, and usefulness
  • Practical builder who can operate without a large team, create systems from scratch, and improve them over time
  • Able to balance editorial quality, operational consistency, audience needs, and business goals
  • Data-literate, with the ability to use performance signals to sharpen the product without letting metrics flatten editorial judgment
  • Deeply aligned with Ark’s mission and highly knowledgeable about its core subject matter

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in newsletters, journalism, editorial product, digital media, or a closely related editorial field
  • Direct responsibility for building, editing, managing, or materially shaping a newsletter or recurring written editorial product
  • Published or audience-facing writing and editing work that demonstrates clear analysis, sound judgment, structure, voice, and command of complex subject matter
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Jewish life, Israel, the Jewish Diaspora, geopolitics, and the broader issues Ark covers
  • Hands-on command of newsletter publishing workflows, including planning, drafting, editing, formatting, QA, publishing, and post-send review; beehiiv experience a plus (we use beehiiv)
  • Ability to use newsletter and audience analytics to evaluate performance and improve editorial products
  • Background working directly with contributors, columnists, hosts, subject-matter experts, or senior editorial voices
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities, limited resources, and high editorial standards
  • Paid membership, subscription product, or audience engagement experience is a plus

Mission Alignment

This role requires strong alignment with Ark Media’s mission and subject matter. You should have a deep interest in Jewish life, Israel, and global affairs, and a desire to contribute to thoughtful, rigorous public conversation.

Ark is a mission-driven but not monolithic organization. We value intellectual curiosity, nuance, and civil debate, and our team reflects a range of perspectives. Success in this role requires engaging seriously with the subject matter while helping create space for a diversity of views.
